January 14, 2025Coral Springs continues to make its mark in cheerleading and other sports, as local high schools delivered strong performances at the recent BCAA Championship. Two cheerleading teams claimed second-place finishes, while soccer and wrestling teams also showcased their skills in various competitions.
Cheerleading Teams Celebrate Success
The Coral Glades cheerleading team excelled in the Extra-Large Non-Tumbling Division, securing second place. Head Coach Alison Madej expressed her pride in the team’s stellar performance.
“I am beyond proud of my girls and their performance at the BCAA Championship. Our cheer was on point, and we achieved a perfect score,” Madej said.
Meanwhile, the Coral Springs High School cheer team also took home second place in the Small Non-Tumbling Division.
“I’m very proud of their performance,” said Head Coach Amanda Mortimer. “This team has something special, and I can’t wait to see them continue the fight at the FHSAA Regional.”
Although Coral Springs Charter and J.P. Taravella High School did not finish in the top two, both teams are preparing for the FHSAA Regionals, scheduled for January 25 at Coral Glades High School.
Soccer Teams Battle for Bragging Rights
In soccer action, J.P. Taravella boys defeated Coral Springs High School 2-1 in a hard-fought match, marking their second win of the season. Lucas Vasquez scored the lone goal for the Colts, who now stand at 8-4-1.
On the girls’ side, the J.P. Taravella team secured a 2-0 victory over Coral Springs High School. Damari Sibbles scored one goal and assisted Emily Garcia in netting another. Goalkeeper Natalie Saintil recorded two saves for a clean sheet.
Next up, J.P. Taravella takes on Northeast High School on Monday, January 13, with the girls’ game at 4 p.m. and the boys’ match at 6 p.m.
Wrestling Teams Deliver Strong Performances
Coral Springs High School and J.P. Taravella showcased their skills at the Coral Spring Duals, with the Colts finishing in fourth place after an 8-2 performance. Standout wrestlers Alex Hailey and J’Bier Romeus remained undefeated, while Jacob Rosen and Victor Dixon led the Trojans.
The Coral Springs Charter wrestling team also impressed, going 1-1 in the District Duals. They defeated St. Andrews 42-36 but fell to Jupiter Christian 47-35. Traveling to New York for the River Hawk Round Robin Tournament, the team celebrated multiple victories, with Preston Lindsay securing first place, Andrew Ridge taking second, and Elijah Perez finishing fourth. All three wrestlers dominated pool play, each claiming first in their pools.
Upcoming Postseason Matchups
The high school sports excitement in Coral Springs isn’t slowing down. On January 22, Coral Springs schools will face off in head-to-head matchups at Coral Springs High School as they prepare for postseason tournaments. Fans can expect fierce competition as local teams continue to aim for excellence.
