The 2025 OVAC Cheerleading Championships held at WesBanco Arena in Wheeling were nothing short of historic for several teams. Among the standout performances, Union Local Jets made history by securing their first-ever OVAC cheerleading title in the highly competitive 3A division.
Union Local head coach, Amy Latham, expressed immense pride in the victory, emphasizing that the team’s focus was always on achieving this remarkable feat. “It was very exciting. They did well in a very tough division. 3A has a lot of very talented teams,” she said. “Winning the OVAC title was a goal from the start.”
The Jets earned the championship with a score of 350, edging out Barnesville (347.8) and Wheeling Central (342.6) to secure the top spot. This victory marks a major milestone for the school and its cheer team, and they are now preparing for the Nationals at Disney World and the OHSAA competition on February 22.
Other noteworthy performances included Cameron, who took gold in the 1A category, Shadyside, who dominated in 2A, and St. Clairsville, who triumphed in 4A. The Wheeling Park cheer team claimed the 5A title, and both St. Clairsville and Wheeling Park are celebrating repeat championships.
Additionally, in the non-tumbling portion of the competition, Bridgeport took first place in the small-school division, while Edison won the large-school division.
