January 6, 2025A major cheerleading competition has prompted the relocation of a general election vote count from its usual venue.
The Future Cheer Internationals, recognized as Europe’s largest cheerleading event, is set to take place at the Bournemouth International Centre (BIC) from July 5 to July 7. With an expected attendance of 30,000 people, the Bournemouth, Christchurch, and Poole (BCP) Council determined that hosting the election count at the BIC on July 4 would negatively impact the local economy.
As a result, vote counting for the Bournemouth East, Bournemouth West, Christchurch, and Poole constituencies will now occur at Kings Park Leisure and Learning Centre.
BCP’s acting returning officer, Graham Farrant, emphasized the economic benefits of the cheerleading event, stating, “The Future Cheer event brings significant value to our local economy, with hotels, restaurants, leisure facilities, transport providers, and more profiting from the influx of visitors.”
He further explained that holding the election count at the BIC would create disruptions detrimental to the area’s economic health.
The decision reflects the growing influence of cheerleading events, showcasing their ability to draw massive crowds and drive substantial economic activity in host cities.
