January 16, 2025The cheerleading and dance teams from Stony Brook University, along with their beloved mascot Wolfie, are gearing up to showcase their talents at the 2025 UCA/UDA College Cheerleading and Dance Team National Championships in Orlando, Florida.
This highly regarded collegiate competition, one of the most prestigious in the nation, will take place from January 17-19 at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex.
Spotlight on the SBU Dance Team
The Stony Brook dance team is comprised of 16 talented athletes, mostly underclassmen, alongside a seasoned fourth-year senior. Many of these team members excel academically, boasting memberships in honor societies and placements on the dean’s list.
Recently, the dance team demonstrated their skills at the Long Island Dance Team Association (LIDTA) competition, held at Nassau Community College on January 11, where they secured an impressive second-place finish in the Pom category.
SBU Cheerleading Team in Action
When not energizing the crowd at Stony Brook football and basketball games, the university’s cheerleading team is hard at work preparing for national-level competitions. They are set to compete in the DI All Girl Game Day and Traditional categories at the UCA championships, maintaining their tradition of excellence on the national stage.
Wolfie in the Spotlight
Stony Brook’s iconic mascot, Wolfie, will also be competing for the coveted title of best mascot at this year’s UCA/UDA championships, adding to the excitement of the event.
