February 6, 2025The St. Croix Educational Complex High School’s Barras Cheer Squad is set to compete at the 2025 World School Cheerleading Championship in Orlando, Florida. The talented team of 30 athletes will embark on their journey Wednesday, with plans to enjoy Disney World before stepping onto the competition mat.

Their first performance will take place during the National High School Cheerleading Championship, scheduled for Saturday and Sunday, where they will showcase their dedication, energy, and precision against some of the world’s top high school cheerleading teams.
Competing on the Global Stage
The World School Cheerleading Competition, organized by the Universal Cheerleaders Association (UCA), is considered one of the most prestigious events in high school cheerleading. The Barras Cheer Squad is eager to prove itself on this international stage.
Head Coach Dana Philogene-Victor shared the excitement and emotions running through the team, stating, “They can’t stop talking about it. It has been a mix of excitement and nerves.”
This marks the Barras’ second appearance at the competition. Last year, they achieved fifth place in the Small Varsity Non-Tumbling Division and an impressive third place in the Competition of Nations. This year, the squad is determined to surpass its past achievements through rigorous training and unwavering commitment.

Intense Preparation and Dedication
The team has been training relentlessly since May 2024, maintaining a demanding schedule that extends through the summer and school year. Despite their intense preparations, they have also supported their school’s sports teams by cheering at volleyball, basketball, and other games.
“Our athletes have made significant sacrifices, missing out on social events, parties, and other gatherings to stay dedicated to practice,” said Philogene-Victor.
However, their training regimen isn’t all about hard work. The squad incorporates team bonding activities, such as making TikToks and participating in fun challenges, to maintain morale and unity.
